Manning Elliott’s Steve Reed Elected Canada Soccer President

Manning Elliott congratulates Steve Reed, head of our Tax Department, on his recent election as President of Canada Soccer. The national association has been responsible for the governance and promotion of the sport in Canada since 1912.

“This is a fitting honour for Steve, who has been active in soccer in Canada for over 50 years,” says Manning Elliott Managing Partner Alden Aumann. “Steve has been an élite player, a coach, a manager and an organizer. Most recently he served as Vice-President of the Canadian Soccer Association, and chaired its Audit and Finance Committee.”

Steve is assuming the leadership of Canada Soccer at a pivotal time for the sport. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio, the Canadian women’s team won unprecedented back-to-back medals. Now Canada Soccer has embarked on a joint bid with the United States and Mexico to host the 2026 World Cup.

The association has also just approved the creation of a Canada-wide professional league, with 10 cities already declaring their interests in fielding teams. A premier league will advance the game’s popularity. It will also improve Canadian soccer skills through high-level competition; say fans, organizers and players, who are confident Canada is on the brink of becoming a world soccer power.

In congratulating Steve on his new role, Alden said, “We are delighted that one of our own has been chosen for this important position. These are exciting times for the sport in Canada and there is no better person to lead it into the future than Steve Reed.”

Born and raised in North Vancouver, Steve graduated from Simon Fraser University in 1980 and became a CA in 1981. He joined Manning Elliott in 1989.
