Canadian Halloween Tax Massacre
On October 31st, 2006, the Canadian government announced that it would begin taxing income trusts like corporations in 2011. The media dubbed the move a “Halloween Massacre” due to the sharp loss in value that the sector experienced in the days following the announcement. The longer-term results have been less ghoulish.
